Broncos star CB Pat Surtain II makes return vs. Commanders after three-game absence
42+ min ago (568+ words) LANDOVER, Md. " The only notable difference about the Broncos" best defensive player Sunday night was a blue sleeve tugged all the way up his left arm, a quiet reminder of the injury that cost Pat Surtain his most missed time in a five-year NFL career. But the cornerback was back healthy Sunday, resuming his usual starting spot in defensive coordinator Vance Joseph"s unit against the Commanders. It was his first game action since late October, when he suffered a partial pectoral tear late in the first half of a 44-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys. "It"s been a long couple of weeks, not being out there," Surtain told reporters Friday. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year wasted no time getting back in the mix on Sunday Night Football, coming up to make a pretty one-on-one tackle on a 5-yard…...

2+ hour, 50+ min ago (603+ words) Mikaela Shiffrin wanted to perform Sunday for another huge crowd at Copper Mountain that turned out to cheer on the home state heroine in a World Cup slalom, but she wanted them to know they came through for her in a big way, too. Feeling heavy legs from jet lag, travel fatigue and a demanding giant slalom at the highest elevation on the women's World Cup the day before, Shiffrin posted the fastest times in both runs and claimed her 104th World Cup victory by 1.23 seconds. She has dominated all three slaloms this season. "It was about as hard as I thought it was going to be " just a lot of fatigue in the legs," said Shiffrin, who arrived here from Europe on Monday. "The crowd completely carried me down the hill. Even from the start, when I hear people cheering,…...

Jewish Family Service of Colorado marks 153 years of providing food aid and housing support
9+ hour, 1+ min ago (602+ words) Jewish Family Service of Colorado is rarely quiet these days. In the two-story brick building at the corner of Eastman Avenue and Tamarac Drive, people rush up the stairs toward reception, passing others who step into the food pantry to select groceries. Nearby, visitors pause, flipping through pamphlets and reading signs plastered across the wall, taking in the full scope of the nonprofit's work. "We are an organization that has Jewish values, but we serve everybody. We don't discriminate in any way," Foster said. Today, the nonprofit serves more than 26,000 people annually through over 30 programs and services, including food security, housing stability, mental health counseling, aging care, employment support, refugee resettlement, chaplaincy and Jewish life, disability services and aeroponic farming. JFS, which receives funding from The Denver Post Community Foundation's Season to Share program, is now in its 153rd year and…...
Broncos Journal: Why Sean Payton’s talking about the No. 1 seed more than the AFC West
9+ hour, 1+ min ago (805+ words) Sean Payton has a three-step plan he regularly points to regarding how he wants his team to think about the postseason. 1. Win the division 2. Aim for the best seed possible There's an easy way to measure just how confident he and the Broncos are as they come off their bye week and try to run their winning streak to nine games Sunday night at Washington. He's talking primarily about Step 2 already. Denver, of course, is in terrific shape to win the AFC West. At 9-2, they lead the Los Angeles Chargers by two games, and they're four games clear of Kansas City in the loss column after the Chiefs lost on Thanksgiving to Dallas. Denver, too, will be heavily favored in each of its next two games against the Commanders and Las Vegas, even though each is on the road. The…...
Nuggets journal: MPJ having a ball in Brooklyn, trade rumors and other NBA topics
9+ hour, 1+ min ago (647+ words) The injury-depleted Nuggets were able to mentally reset this week, getting three days at home between games for Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, the NBA season crossed the one-month mark, with trends and storylines growing increasingly recognizable. Let's take a look around the league at five topics outside of Denver but related to the Nuggets. You always wondered, throughout Michael Porter Jr.'s six years in Denver, whether he had some lingering untapped potential as a ball-in-hand scorer. He was a lethal off-ball weapon in the Nuggets' system, and he bought into that role enough to help them win a championship, much to his credit. But he always wondered the same thing. This is a former No. 1 high school recruit in the country, after all, back surgeries or not. What would he look like as a first option on a bad team? Oh,…...
